Heating
Practical tips for heating safely
Mandatory maintenance of the appliances:
- Gas boiler: every 3 years
- Wood stove, oil heater, insert: every year
- Water heaterWater heater: Device used to heat and store domestic hot water (for showering, washing dishes, etc.). Regular maintenance is essential to avoid breakdowns and risks. (hot water): descalingDescaling: Operation that removes limescale accumulated in appliances (such as the water heater) to extend their lifespan and ensure proper functioning.
+ annual maintenance
Prefer gas: it is more economical and less risky.
To avoid
- Kerosene stove (zibro) → fumes are harmful + risk of humidity;
- Electric portable heater → the electricity consumption of this method costs 3x more than gas;
- D.I.Y. or poorly installed system → risk of explosion or poisoning.
Do you want to add or change the heating system?
You must have the written consent of the owner.
Follow the safety standards and ask if a permit is required.
You are responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair costs.
Is your heating not working?
Notify your landlord to report the heating issue
(or email) with photos and/or videos.
Specify that you are requesting a quick intervention to resolve the problem at the source (not just repainting).
Keep a written record of all communications.
Your landlord does not want to make repairs?
Contact a tenant support association for assistance or to resolve a conflict with your landlord. See the page of non-profits at: Who to Contact?
You can also request an inspection of your housing by the DIRL (Regional Housing Inspection Directorate). Be aware, these procedures carry a risk of eviction if they deem the housing dangerous for your safety. See the video “How to file a complaint with the DIRL?“.
