Humidity

How to prevent humidity ?

Air out your home: open your windows for at least 10 minutes each day.

Avoid drying your wet laundry in small, enclosed rooms.

In winter, keep some heating on, even at a low level: this prevents your walls from getting cold (and therefore humid).

These actions and tips can help, but they are not always enough. If the moisture comes from the building (walls, ceilings, leaks…), it’s not your fault!

Condensation and Infiltration

In legal cases, the causes of moisture are often blamed on the tenant for one of the reasons listed above (poor ventilation, wet laundry, or even “breathing too much”).

It is therefore important to identify the source of the moisture, which can also be caused by the building (deteriorationDeterioration: The condition of equipment that has become faulty or less efficient due to age (e.g., a rusted radiator). It is not related to improper use., damage, infiltrationsWater or moisture infiltration occurs when water slowly and quietly enters a place where it shouldn’t be, such as inside walls, ceilings, or floors of a building. This can happen due to rain, a leak, or a watertightness issue. Over time, it can cause damage such as stains, mold, or even weaken the building’s structure., condensationCondensation: This occurs when water vapor in the air turns into droplets upon contact with a cold surface (such as a window or wall). It often happens in poorly ventilated rooms. due to poor building design, etc).

It is recommended to seek help and advice from specialized associations or unions to better understand the origin of the moisture in your home and to check whether there are causes related to the building.

What to do if the moisture persists?

1 Contact your landlord to report the moisture problem and request that they address the issue;

Notify them in writing (registered mailRegistered Mail: Letter sent with a return receipt, allowing proof that the recipient has received the mail. This procedure costs approximately €10. or email) with photos of the mold.Mold: Microscopic fungi that appear as spots (often black or green) due to moisture. They can damage surfaces and pose health risks.

Specify that you are requesting a prompt intervention to address the problem at its source (not just repainting).

Keep a written record of all communications.

2 If nothing changes, you can contact several organizations! And in case of a conflict with your landlord, there are solutions.
